As Kings caretaker, we accept.
Looking at this roster, there was no chance in hell Cousin would sign back with us next year. We did not have cap space to resign him and with the roster we have right now it has no chance to win. So i figured, why not use Cousins as bait and trade all these bad contracts? and it work. next off season will be where the Kings will shine. We pick up some draft picks which is great in a deep draft also i am a huge fan of Mason Plumlee. He's going to be a stud one day, and to get him was a great move for the Kings. Losing the contracts of Thompson, Hayes, outlaw and Landry was the hardest part and only a few selected teams could take all these guys at once. Took me awhile but i was able to find the right deal. Hopefully know one takes this team next year because i really want to rebuild this team lol.
BTW: I have used the salaries for next year since in about a few hours Ian will be switching over the salaries. For Fab melo, i will also be picking up his team option.
We accept. I am a huge fan of what Boogie adds to this roster. We lost Asik and that may be a tough piece to lose, but Cousins makes us THAT much better. Rubio-Harden-?-Love-Cousins.
Need to add one more piece and then this team is going to be formidable after the real D5 season.
I don't get why this was separated into two trades, instead of just a three team trade. Is it both or nothing? Or can they go through separately? Because I kinda like trade 1, it's basically Cousins for Omer Asik, Terrence Jones and two 1st round picks with filler thrown in on both sides. That's a decent return for a guy with a good chance of leaving in free agency next year. But what's the deal with trade 2? Wilson Chandler is nothing special and Asik will eventually be traded and probably go back to averaging 12 and 12 and being a very good post defender. Plus it leaves the Kings with Fab Melo as the only center on the roster.
I'd accept trade 1 but I'm not too sure about trade 2.

So what does making it a three team deal going to make it harder for you to deny? You always, always hate when I try(or other active gms) and get a good trade. I bet all the times you steal deals you dont give a shit. You have gotten over on many! But its always your input on teams getting decent deals as well when you go denying shit. Dont use your TC status to improve your team. If thats the case I want on the TC so I can do the same. Until Asik proves(if and when he gets traded) that hes still that guy then it may change things. Right now at this moment Im trading Melo and Plumlee(1st Rounder-19th Pick) for him. And im trading basically for another guard. The idea of the league is to improve and better or stay consistant each season to be a contender. Thats what I am doing....

I don't vote on my own trades, so any have my past trades that have been accepted aren't relevant in my opinion in regards to how I should vote on a specific trade. As for the general idea of posting a lopsided deal: I think a GM should absolutely be looking to get the best trade possible since that's their job, but they should expect scrutiny and maybe rejection from the committee if a trade is unfair.

Can you please expand on this point? What have I been denying? How have I used my TC status to improve my team?

I agree that there is a question mark with Asik right now, but having Dwight Howard on your team doesn't magically make you a worse basketball player. He's just had most of his playing time taken away. As for this trade from your perspective: I like it. You're getting a good center to replace Pekovic who you don't have the capspace to re-sign, and a capable point guard to be Lawson's back-up.
I haven't even voted to reject the second part anyway, I've said I don't like it and I'm waiting for more feedback from others. I'm not sure why I bother to respond anymore since this is always your sentiment anytime anything negative is said by the trade committee. Except when I post a trade of course, then all of a sudden a trade committee is a fantastic idea and it's a travesty if they don't reject all my deals.

Trade 1's draft picks will have to be re-worked. The most recent trading regulation amendment states: "Trading of draft picks is allowed up to a maximum of four years in the future. Picks may not be traded in consecutive years." dynastyfive.boards.net/thread/72/trading-regulations
I'm actually more worried about Trade 1. Demarcus Cousins is a Top 5 centre and he's only 23. He could easily be the best in the league when Dwight's athleticism drops off. To me this is a coup by Houston.
The second trade is lopsided and I see Alex's concerns, but it doesn't significantly harm the Kings enough for me to reject. The Kings aren't in dire straights yet.
Overall I accept both trades, but the draft picks will need to be figured out.
Everyone in Trade 2 is mediocre, so I would have no problem accepting it.
Trade 1, however, is more interesting. In my opinion, DMC is going to be the best center in the league in the next 3 years. And what does Sacramento get in return for him? A handful of mediocre guys who are never going to be stars. I would definitely reject this if DMC was on a long-term contract, but the fact that he is going to be a FA after next season perhaps changes things. My real concern is that we are making the Kings unattractive for any future GM. If this goes through, their best player is Wilson Chandler.
If you combine the two, this essentially boils down to DMC + Landry for Wilson Chandler, Terrence Jones, Mason Plumlee, and two 1st rounders.
I'm gonna withhold my decision until I hear some more people weigh in

My real concern is that we are making the Kings unattractive for any future GM. If this goes through, their best player is Wilson Chandler.
This is also a big concern for me, although a new GM will also be quite happy about having lots of 1st rounders and this will guarantee a Top 10 pick in at least next year's draft imho.

The reason why I split it into two trades is because it was. three way deal just didn't know how to write it up to show who's giving who lol. For the draft pick part I'll have to talk to Houston because I didn't realize he traded it away. Alex I was thinking of keeping asik for that same reason, but I figured the cap space would be more beneficial. That 14 million dollar year really does sucks on his contract and with Wilson chandler he has a team option for next year, so the GM will have the choice to either pick him up or not. It will save the GM 7 million. Right now with this trade Kings will have 16 million in cap space this off season and also over 30 million next year. This trade will also help the team tank as Ian said, and any gm would love to have a top pick next year draft.
Iv seen how off season has gone and Ian as you said DC is a very good player and i did not want to take the risk that the team would of lose cousins. Before this trade i would of only been able to give Cousins 14 million a year and not be able to sign anyone else lol. I have emailed Houston about the picks and will sort it out very soon.
Is there two people who use your account, Mr Colangelo?! Sometimes you're eloquent and I understand you fine, sometimes I don't have a clue what you're talking about ;D
That 14 million dollar year really does sucks on his contract.
Actually, that's incorrect. Only $8,374,646 counts against a team's cap space in the real NBA.
Also, you have bird rights to DeMarcus Cousins, you should have no problem resigning him. Yes, you go over the cap, but he is an amazing player who will make some all-star appearances very soon. He's definitely worth the price.

lol i just type really fast sometimes and forget to read it over lol, let me try again
- The reason that there is trade 1 and trade 2 is because I'm having a brain fart, and i dont know how to make it into a three way deal lol as silly as it sounds. - Alex, i agree with you about Asik. I was going to keep him because i new once he gets traded IRL he will likely be a 12 and 12 guy again. But the reason i dealt him to Nuggets is because the nuggets were giving up Mason draft rights and i was also trading away Raymond Felton who was not needed on my team since i already have Thomas and Vasques. Asik 14 million dollar contract in 2015 is killer, and i believe the free agents out there in 2015 will be better than Asik. I'm pretty much saying i can find a better way to spend 14 million dollars lol rather than keep asik as my starting center. - The draft picks part i will deal with right now, i have pm Greg and told him what i wanted, just waiting for his conformation. - Finally Josh, you pretty much said it all in your write up, DC value is hurt since he's a free agent at the end of the year, and what i have learned is that resigning a player is not a guarantee in D5. Before this trade happen, next year i would of have around 14 million to sign him and lets face it, that wont happen. Only way DC signs back with my team if there is a chance i can give him a chance at a max contract or there is a winning foundation around this team. Which i have neither of at the moment. - After this trade, i will have 16 million dollars to spend on free agents, and if some teams procrastinate and do not pick up some of there players team options, the markets gets a lot better. I see it as a win win. It sucks that i do not have DC on my team and i understand how great he is (trust me, i have in basketball pools, guy is a killer lol) but there is no need for him on a team that needs to rebuild and start all over again. This trade just helps the rebuilding process to go faster with Nuggets and Rockets taking all my awful contracts.

I'm following what Ian puts on the website, nothing else.

You have his Bird Rights, you can offer max to him. Just throwing that in the pot..

Blake's really hit the nail on the head here actually, it didn't occur to me previously but he's right, Sacramento can exceed the cap to re-sign DC.
Sorry guys I'm going to give a reject. There are a bunch of guys with truly exceptional trade value in the league right now and Demarcus Cousins is one of them.
Paul George Anthony Davis Kyrie Irving Demarcus Cousins John Wall
You look at trades made over the REAL nba over the year and you come across a few trades that don't make sense. This trade makes sense. He gains value. (At least in my part of the deal) Asik is said to be better than Dwight by some who like his game. He could blow up in a spot. Cousins? He's known to be a egg-head at times. Yes, this trade would make me an unbelievably good Basketball team. But at the same time Sactown gets a bunch of shit in order. Picks/Expirings.
If you want to rebuild a team, why not keep the 24 year old stud and build around him?
I realize some of those contracts are not pretty, but you can use your cap this offseason and THEN use your Bird Rights to sign Cousins after that.
Cousins is just a guy you already have on your roster to build around, you should keep him. It could require patience, but when you have a guy like him you build around him or get someone similar in value.

just want to confirm, not trying to argue or anything but if i were to use this "bird right" on cousins, will the kings get him back 100% or does the player agent get the final say. I just do not want DC to leave this team, and i rather trade him to get some assets back if that's the case. But if you guys are saying no matter what, DC will be a king once i use my bird rights on, you guys have valid points. But i just want confirmation on this, that all.
You still need to negotiate to sign him, the point I (and others) are making is that there are zero cap limitations basically, since you have bird rights on him. You can also use any cap you have FIRST on other players and THEN sign Cousins to any contract it takes to keep him.
Post by Bryan Colangelo on Jan 5, 2014 5:08:37 GMT
Alright that makes sense, but what i got from that, the player agent still gets the final say. Say i offer DC a max contract and you offer a max contract. Alex for example is the player agent, is alex entitled to accept my offer no matter what or can he pick your team if he feels "its better environment to be around" or something like that, if you get what i am trying to say.
I'm going to vote to reject this. I agree with a lot of comments that have been critical of the Cousins part of the trade, and as I've previously said I don't like part 2.
